The child removes and replaces a circle, square, and triangle inset after tracing the frame and the inset with two fingers.

Presentation

Carry the tray to the table with both hands.

Take out the circle by its knob with the pincer grip and place it on the table.

Trace the edge of the empty frame slowly with your index and middle fingers, all the way around.

Hold the inset by the knob with the non-dominant hand and trace its edge with the same two fingers.

Replace the circle, turning it until it drops in.

Repeat with the square and triangle.

Remove all three, mix them, and replace them.

Give a three-period lesson: "circle", "square", "triangle".
Extensions, easiest to hardest
- Replace the insets with eyes closed, feeling the frame first.
- Find objects in the room with the same shape.
- Bring the insets from across the room one at a time.
Control of error
Each inset fits only its own frame; the wrong inset will not drop in.
