The child reads labels for the objects in a model farm and places each label by its object, learning that nouns name things.

Set up the farm with the child, naming each item as you place it.

Say, "Everything has a name. I will write the names."
- 3
Write a label for one object ("pig") while the child watches, and ask the child to read it and place it by the pig.

Continue writing labels one at a time; the child reads and places each.

Say, "The word that names a thing is called a noun."
- 6
Give the child a pile of labels to read and place alone.
