The child works with two, three, and then all four cylinder blocks at once, with the cylinders mixed together.

Presentation

Bring two blocks to the table and place them side by side.

Remove all cylinders from both blocks and mix them together on the table.

Pick up one cylinder, look at both blocks, and choose a hole.

Continue until both blocks are full, checking the tops with your fingertips.

On later days, use three blocks placed in a triangle, then all four placed in a square.

Invite the child to work.
Extensions, easiest to hardest
- Place the blocks at different spots on the rug so the child must look across the rug for each hole.
- Mix the cylinders from all four blocks and replace them blindfolded.
- Place the blocks across the room from the cylinders so the child carries each one from a distance.
Control of error
A cylinder in the wrong block or hole leaves another cylinder with no place to fit.
