PL 4.02Putting On a Coat (Coat Flip)
The child lays the coat on the floor, puts their arms in the sleeves, and flips it over their head to put it on without help.
Presentation

Invite the child to the coat area with their coat.

Lay the coat on the floor with the inside facing up and the hood or collar nearest to your feet.

Stand at the collar end, facing the coat.

Bend down and put both hands into the armholes.
- 5
Lift the coat and swing it up and over your head in one movement; your arms slide into the sleeves as it falls behind you. The coat landing on your back is the point of interest.

Pull the front edges together and close the fastener if you can.

Take the coat off and hang it on the hook by its loop or hood.

Invite the child to lay the coat down and flip it on.
Extensions, easiest to hardest
- Put on a coat by holding the collar and reaching one arm in at a time
- Zip or button the coat (after the dressing frames)
- Help a younger child lay out their coat for the flip
Control of error
If the coat is laid upside down, it ends up on inside-out or upside down after the flip.
