PL T2.09Hanging Up a Bag and Coat
On arrival and after outdoor play, the toddler hangs their bag and coat on their own low hook, marked with their photo or symbol.

Safety
- Use hooks with rounded ends, such as mushroom-style hooks, not pointed hooks, and do not mount them at toddler eye level.
- Remove drawstrings from hoods and neck areas of children's coats, and do not let bag straps be worn during play.
Presentation

On arrival, walk with the child to the hooks. Say: 'Here is your hook. Here is your picture.'

Take off the coat with the child: open it, then hold the cuff while they pull each arm out.

Show the child the loop inside the collar. Hold the coat by the loop.

Lift it slowly and place the loop over the hook. Letting go and seeing the coat stay on the hook is the point of interest.

Hand the child their bag. Point to the strap and invite them to hang it on the same or next hook.

Next time, hand the child the coat by the loop and wait while they hang it.
Extensions, easiest to hardest
- Take off their own coat before hanging it
- Hang a hat or scarf on the hook
- Get their own coat from the hook before going outside
Control of error
A coat not hung by its loop slides off the hook to the floor.
