Invite the child to bring the Continent Globe and the World Puzzle Map to the rug.

Point to North America on the globe and then on the map: 'This map is the earth made flat so we can see all of it at once.'

Show the two circles: 'The earth is split into two halves so we can lay it flat.'

Take out North America by its knob with the pincer grip, trace its edge with two fingers, and set it on the rug above the map.

Take out each remaining piece in the same way, naming each continent, and arrange them on the rug.

Put each piece back, tracing it first, and find its place on the map.

Invite the child to take out and replace the pieces.

Give a three-period lesson on any continent names that are not yet secure.

Match each continent piece to the same continent on the globe
Trace the continent pieces on paper, color them in the matching colors, and cut them out
Place continent label cards on the map and check with the control map
Make a world map booklet with one page per continent
Peel an orange in one piece and flatten it to show why a flat map splits the round earth

Each piece fits only in its own space; a labeled control map shows every continent name.
