The child reads words with phonograms using an object box, then phonogram booklets where each booklet collects words with one phonogram.

Presentation

Lay out the objects and name them together.

Take a label, point to the phonogram, and say, "This is /ee/." Sound out the whole word with the phonogram as one sound: "/sh/ /ee/ /p/, sheep."

Place the label by the sheep.

Invite the child to read the rest of the labels.

On a later day, give the child an "ai" booklet. Read the title together: "/ai/."

Read the first word in the booklet, showing the phonogram inside it.

Invite the child to read the rest of the booklet aloud.

Offer booklets for other phonograms the child knows.
