Age 2–3Work 11 of 13 in Size, Color, Shape, Texture, Sound, and Smell
Safety
- Beans, rice, and sand are choking hazards: glue the lids shut and check the seals and containers for cracks before each use.
- Remove any shaker that is cracked or loose; do not use glass.
- Each shaker must not fit the small parts test cylinder (1.25 in. × 2.25 in.).
Presentation
- 1
Place the red-lid shakers in a column on the left and the blue-lid shakers on the right.
- 2
Pick up the first red shaker, hold it near your ear, and shake it gently twice.
- 3
Shake each blue shaker in turn near the same ear until one sounds the same.
- 4
Place the pair together in the middle. Point of interest: the second shaker making the same sound.
- 5
Do the same with the second pair, and name the sounds: "Loud. Quiet."
- 6
Mix the shakers and invite the child to pair them.
- 7
Turn each pair over together and look at the dots.
