Washing a Window or Mirror

Safety

The spray bottle holds water only and is labeled; bottles that ever held a cleaning product are not reused for children.
Mirrors at child height are shatter-resistant (acrylic or safety-backed) and fixed to the wall; windows the child washes are at floor level and cannot be opened by the child.
The adult shows spraying only toward the glass and stops the work if the child sprays another child.

Lay the towel on the floor under the glass. Point to fingerprints on the glass and say, 'Fingerprints.'

Point the nozzle at the glass and squeeze the trigger once. Watching the drops land on the glass is the point of interest.

Wipe the wet area with a cloth in big strokes until the drops are gone. Look at the glass again together.

Hand the child the spray bottle. Wait while they spray two or three times, then hand them the cloth.

Dry any drips on the sill or floor. Put the cloths in the laundry basket and return the bottle to its place.

Fingerprints and streaks left on the glass are visible when the child looks at it or through it; drops on the floor show too much spraying.
