The child looks closely at works by one artist, learns where the artist lived, and tries a technique used by that artist.

Presentation
- 1
Show one artwork on an easel. Look at it together in silence for one minute.

Ask: 'What do you see? What colors? How does it make you feel?'
- 3
Show a photograph of the artist and say their name.
- 4
Find where the artist lived on the globe.
- 5
Show two more works by the same artist and ask what is the same.
- 6
Present the technique: for example, thick swirling strokes for van Gogh.
- 7
Invite the child to create their own work using the technique.

- Match artworks to artists
- Visit an art museum or the Utah Museum of Fine Arts
- Compare two artists' work
- Make a class gallery with labels
Control of error
Artwork cards are labeled on the back with the artist's name; a control card shows each artist with their works.

- Names at least three artists
- Describes an artwork using color, line, or shape words
- Uses a technique on purpose
