LA 2.04I Spy: Ending Sounds
The child identifies the last sound of spoken words.

Presentation

Name each object on the tray together.

Say, "Listen to the end of this word: bu-sssss. Bus ends with /s/."
- 3
Say, "I spy something on the tray that ends with /p/."
- 4
If the child is unsure, say each word, stretching or stressing the last sound.

Continue with the other objects.
- 6
Ask the child to spy an ending sound for you to find.
Extensions, easiest to hardest
- Beginning and ending sound of the same object ("Cup begins with /k/ and ends with /p/")
- Ending sounds with objects in the room
- Ending sounds with no objects present
Control of error
The adult, who repeats the word with the final sound stretched.
Ready to move on when the child…
- Names the last sound of a spoken CVC word without objects present
- Names both the first and last sound of a word
