The child names the four seasons in order and sorts pictures of weather, clothing, plants, and activities by season.

Presentation

Show the four photographs of the same place in each season. Ask what is different.

Name the current season first: 'Right now it is fall.' Show the fall header card.
- 3
Name the other seasons in order and place the header cards in a row or circle.

Take one picture card, describe it, and place it under its season.

Invite the child to sort the rest of the cards.
- 6
Place the headers in a circle and show that after winter comes spring again.
- 7
Compare the current season to the weather chart.
Extensions, easiest to hardest
- Sequence the tree-through-the-year cards
- Take a monthly photo or drawing of the same tree outside the classroom
- Sort months of the year onto the season wheel
- Discuss how seasons differ in other places, such as the Southern Hemisphere, where the seasons are opposite
