Safety

Match actions to the space: jump from standing on the floor, and run outdoors or in a clear area.
Objects must not fit the small parts test cylinder (1.25 in. × 2.25 in.).

During the day, name what the child is doing while they do it: "You are climbing." "You are pouring."

With one child or a small group, do an action and name it: "I am jumping. Jump, jump."

Invite the child to do it: "Can you jump?" Name it as they do it: "You are jumping."

Ask for an action you have named before, without showing it. This is the point of interest: the child does the named action.

With the basket, take out an object, do its action, and name it: "I roll the ball." Hand the object to the child: "You roll the ball."

Once the child knows several actions, show a photograph and name the action: "The boy is sleeping." Then ask, "Show me the girl eating."

Return the objects or photographs to the shelf.

Action songs that name a movement in each line
Pairs of opposite actions: open and close, up and down, stop and go
Photographs of the child's own classmates doing actions, and the child shows the one named
A two-step direction: "Get the ball and roll it to me."

The adult, who names the action the child actually did and then shows the named action again.

Photographs of classmates need each family's permission under the school's photo policy.
